So as we all know, two of my favorite things in this world are dogs
(duh!) and theater. So when the two meet, it’s definitely worth a blog
post, don’t you think?
My friend David brought this new play to my attention. It’s called B*TCH, and begins performances tonight Off-Broadway at The Players Theater, produced by The Theatre Project.
The summary on their website (which is pretty fantastic, if I do say so myself) says:
“B*tch is a rapid-fire, provocative, urban crime-comedy that
centers on three brothers who enist[sic] the mob in a seemingly perfect
get-rich-quick scheme. The Debenedetto brothers have gotten their hands
on a rare blue pit bull and seek the help of an estranged uncle to
train and fight her. Nothing goes quite as they had planned.”
Sounds interesting, right? I obviously haven’t seen it yet, but I am
planning on it, so you’ll read my review here hopefully very soon. The
show’s director, Christian Amato, has said: “B*tch addresses
the topic of dog fighting from a clever angle in order to expose the
cruelty and abuse that surrounds the gruesome sport. The topic has been
at the forefront of national media, but has yet to reach the stage.
Through the production, we hope that many people will realize how real
of an issue animal cruelty is.” What’s more, because of the play’s
themes, the producers have agreed to donate $1 from every ticket sold to
the ASPCA.
But wait, I’m not done: my Co-Blogger, Jennifer, found another play about dogs. What the what?!
...
So stay tuned for our reviews and for the futures of both of these shows!
